Säffle Municipality

Introduction

Säffle Municipality has implemented ViroteaED, a VR-based training, to improve the work culture within home care. Ann-Louise Persson, who works both in home care and digitally, shares her experiences.

Challenge

With around 500 users, Säffle Municipality faced challenges in dealing with elderly people and dealing with mentally unstable people. Younger staff were often faced with situations they found challenging and unsure of how to handle. Questions such as “How should we deal with this?” were common. The need for effective training in dealing with this was therefore great.

Solution

After a meeting with Virotea’s founder, Ivan Perlesi, and Arvika Näringslivscentrum, Säffle Municipality decided to implement ViroteaED in October 2023. Despite initial resistance to the VR technology, staff quickly overcame their doubts and appreciated the benefits of the training. Ann-Louise Persson led the implementation with a methodology that promoted discussion and engagement, focusing on core values to ensure long-term and applicable knowledge in everyday life.

Results

The VR training is conducted in groups of two, which promotes participation and discussion. Ann-Louise emphasizes the importance of continuous skills development to ensure that knowledge is used in practice. She plans to include the entire organization, including summer temporary workers, to maintain a high level of competence. The training in 360-degree VR provides a focused experience that facilitates the understanding of complex situations. Ann-Louise also highlights Virotea's fast support and sees the greatest benefit in learning how to avoid mistakes without creating stress for care recipients. Säffle Municipality's work with engaging training is an inspiration to others.
