Challenge
Kungsbacka Municipality wanted to create more meaningful activities for the elderly and was looking for a solution that could promote conversation and dialogue within the group. With a strong interest in welfare technology, they saw VR as an enabler for care recipients with limited cognitive ability.
Solution
In the fall of 2022, Kungsbacka Municipality conducted workshops to introduce VR glasses to both relatives and employees. The goal was to arouse interest and increase understanding of VR experiences for their loved ones. With the VR glasses, care recipients could explore new places in the world and revisit places that meant a lot to them. Life stories were used to meet the wishes and needs of people who could not express themselves.
Results
Very positive reactions to the VR experiences, which, for example, have calming and distracting effects for care recipients with anxiety and anxiety problems. The opportunity to visit familiar places has spread joy among these people, as well as the opportunity to look at places with relatives that they have visited together. The VR glasses bring peace, joy but also create space for dialogue and conversation.
