The reality lab

Introduction

The reality lab wants to enable research directly in the environment that is intended to be the recipient of the effort. Through short decision-making paths and a close collaboration with the business, the conditions are provided to run research and projects in an innovative way. The reality lab enables a collective competence where projects meet users, staff, entrepreneurs, researchers and students. The purpose is to offer a realistic development environment with the goal of testing projects with a focus on equal welfare technology and digitization and development of forms of care and housing. The humanistic view is humanistic and holistic and is greater than the sum of its parts.

Purpose

The purpose of the project is to investigate whether and, in such cases, how VR glasses can be used for educational purposes to enhance learning for staff.

Goal setting

To investigate:

  • The users' experience of the ViroteaED service and the training with VR in its entirety; What works well? what can be developed to make the service and training even better?

  • The customer process; how much hand-holding is required from Virotea in connection with the start-up of a new customer?

  • The users' self-perceived learning using VR glasses as an educational tool compared to, for example, theoretical education

Method

The pilot project period is estimated to be 20 weeks, subject to changes in conditions in the test environment, administration, society or with the project party that may affect the schedule or implementation. During the test period, staff from elderly care and LSS group homes will be offered training in handling. Evaluation of the ViroteaED service and the training as a whole is done via a survey in connection with the training.

Project team

The project is led by the Reality Lab in the Enskede-Årsta-Vantör district administration. Project partner is Virotea AB. The test environment is KTC.

Results

The project has been successfully implemented. Overall, the participants who received the VR training in hospitality were satisfied. The majority felt that VR was a better method of learning compared to a theoretical education. Managers of employees who participated in the training also thought it was good for increasing learning. Virotea experienced KTC as cooperative and that the customer process in the project was smooth.
